Mental Math- Division

Sincere love of multiplication has spread over to division. He loves to divide objects, create division problems for me and solve tricky problems. He has really fell head over heels for division. :)

And check out the funny joke at the end about "tissue." My little nerd is so funny. Oh and don't ask about the cat costume.

Sinceres 5th Birthday Party Video

Sincere celebrated his 5th Birthday by having a big Human Body Birthday Party. One of the moms made this GREAT video from the day. He had a blast and everyone said that it was an incredible part and they had never been to one like it. :)

More Math- Fraction Work and Division

While I was tapping his addition/subtraction skills (see below) I figured I would tape him doing a little work with fractions and some division. He LOVES division and makes up division problems to do all day long. I think that's because I taught him using dry noodles at first. I love to see him work through things and see things click like it does when he works out a problem.

Sincere can still wander off of topic pretty easy but I try to get him back on topic or else we will be talking about bats wing span in no time. He got tired towards the end because I had him do all the addition, subtraction, fraction and division problems back to back. But even being tired I think he did a great job. We are currently working slightly beyond this but will capture that soon. :)

Sincere Doing Addition and Math

Sincere has been doing addition and subtraction for a while now and his skills continue to get better. At this point I would say he is doing 3rd grade math work. But I got worried once I heard he would be heading to a K where they were doing a math program called Everyday Math. I wasn't worried that he could do the work but I was worried that he might find it confusing since he had already been doing the old school way that I was taught. Since his K is a G&T they will start Everyday Math at the 1st grade level so I figured I should see if I could figure out how to do it. I don't know if this is the right way but I do think it's a good sign that he is learning there is more than one way to solve the problem. And I was pleasantly surprised he caught on to it right away.

Sincere's Idea of Playtime Fun

We live with Sincere so it doesn't strike us really weird when he spends 45 minutes drawing the digestive system or creating a headache by lining up balls and saying they were cells sending messages through the nerves to the brain that they were in pain. The other day he created a dance he called the "olfactory receptor dance." This week he has been really into genes and the ability to see. I heard him telling his eyes "I love you eyes. Thank you for what you do. I wish my mouth could reach you and give you a kiss." :)

Really he is fascinated by all things having to with biology. It is a topic he can't get enough of. It's funny because there is another little boy we know that loves dinosaurs. Sincere could care less about dinosaurs now and I wondered why. He cleared it up for me "I love all LIVING things." LOL!

Here is an older video that shows him in the middle of his "playtime."

The Sincere Workout Plan

Sincere has told me "I am just not in too sports. I don't like doing what the other kids are doing." I dragged him to soccer practice. This was our 4th try at soccer. He told me "I am only giving it a chance for you. Not for me but for you." He wanted to leave after one kick but I told him we were going to stay for the whole practice. He spent the rest of the time being very Sincere. Which consisted of him noting how much the ball looked like Neptune. When it was his turn instead of kicking it he picked up the ball and said "Watch me show you the effect of gravity on the ball" dropping it then saying "Look gravity is holding it down." I had to grab the camera and have him repeat some of it because it was such a classic Sincere moment.

I got him to do 2 drills then he refused because the ball was rolling over the white flowers that bees needed and he wouldn't do that to the bees. He spent the rest of the time practicing his version of interpretative dance in the field.

The other video is of him lifting "weights" and doing P90X with daddy. He actually really likes to do exercise with Bobby. As long as it isn't soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball or parent/kid karate. LOL.

Sincere's Sell Craft Store

Daddy had his friend over for the weekend and Sincere sensed an opportunity to earn some cash. He created some crafts and set up shop. He later added some cupcakes to the store and earned $6.00. He spent it over the next two days on ice cream and some fruit. Favorite part when he goes cranky shop owner on me and tells me to read the price. He set all the prices and confided in me that he didn't want to sell most of the items.

Happy Father's Day

"I love you daddy. Your my favorite buddy. We have fun and sometimes I love you. You eat with me and you drink. And I love my Wall-E toothbrush. Happy Father's Day." Sincere 4 1/2 June 19th, 2011

Cells Gone Wild

Okay I am super embarrassed that I haven't posted video since August but you guys know we are moving and have been trying to move for a year. And because we are moving I have to get better about making time to post. Here is a video of Sincere from a while ago but I thought it would be a good video to post as I get back in the swing of things.

This video is of Sincere taking passionately about cells and the body. Also this video shows his "art" skills.

Enjoy!

My Masterpiece

I always thought Sincere wasn't into art. He gets bored easily with coloring, his idea of painting is rubbing paint on the paper and he has broken almost every marker I bought him by coloring too hard in a circle. Picasso he is not.

Well I guess I was looking at it all the wrong way. Sincere is into art just his own style. He seems to combine performance art, mixed media art and multi-media art to form his "masterpieces." LOL!

Here is a video of one of the master at work. Also some pictures of work he created during a time in his work he likes to call the Bug Period. And also a picture of how he continues to press the boundaries on what is and isn't art with a piece he calls "Fuzzies on Crumby." Enjoy.

Early Algebra

I finally am getting around to posting this video of Sincere doing algebra. Well its early algebra but I still am proud of my little guy. I added the extra step in for him to work on writing his numbers. He started doing early algebra (what he calls Mystery X Math) a couple months ago. If you catch him in the right mood he will actually explain the steps for you. We aren't using finger counting to do math right now just because I want him to be able to show his work. So even if we are working with addition or subtraction I had him draw it out since I think that will be a good skill once he gets into elementary school.

Its a super long video so feel free to skip parts. Its so long my battery light was flashing. LOL!

Enjoy.

Singing in Spanish

Sincere's favorite song to sing is the Thomas Theme Song. He could happily sing that all day long as long as you don't try to join him. He is a solo act and he isn't looking to join a group.

They sing at school so now Sincere has at least 10 Spanish songs he can sing. Half the time I don't know what the words mean but I can usually pick out words like "casa" "hola" "nino" but that's about it. LOL!

This video was from about the first week of April but since I haven't posted (or videotaped much) in a LONG time and I don't want to abandon the blog I decided to post it. Sincere has a couple cool tricks that I have been wanting to capture once things stop being so CRAZY over here.

In the meantime enjoy the stylings of Sincere One. Funny parts to watch for- him telling me to open my eyes because I was super tired, him telling how to clap for him and all of his lovely show stealing high notes. What? I have to teach the kid some showmanship. :)

Orange Big Nickels

I know its been forever since I have posted a video of Sincere. He is still is doing things that crack me up and amaze me but its been HECTIC over here. Just when you think it couldn't get anymore crazy it does. But I figured I better get back in the habit of posting videos or I might never do it. :)

This is an older video from a couple months ago. We have a bowl of oranges in the office and one day Sincere decided to create his own set of "Orange big nickels." And by nickles he means nipples. No matter how many times I correct him he is intent on calling nipples "nickels."

This had me cracking up so I thought I would share. Enjoy.

Telling Tall Tales

Sincere has been telling tall tales (Attention Tales) for a while. He makes up these wild tales of being hurt by whatever name I throw out there. Daddy, Grandma, my friend he hasn't seen in 5 months. Here is a video from a two months ago when he spun a tale about daddy hurting him. I have no idea where he gets the material for these stories from. Does Max and Ruby have subliminal messages? LOL!

We love his imagination over at our house but it got mommy in some trouble the other day. I got called into the director of his preschools office. Seems that he has been telling tales of me hurting him at school. I cleared it up but I doubt they believe me. I had to have the "Sincere don't tell tales if people don't know your playing" conversations.

In the video he is Clovey the cat. Note the purr at the end of the video. Cracks me up every time.

Sincere's Take on Shakespeare

Sincere loves to be the star of the show. You can say the word "Camera" and he will stop and pose. He pretends to be on stages all the time. He has learned how to sing the last note of each song high so he can get a solo. LOL! He also is into creating and acting out plays. The other night he created a play with his trains and I told him about Shakespeare. I had to grab the camera because his little mini plays were cute. He ended up cracking me up with his take on Shakespeare. Enjoy!

Telling Time

Sincere has been telling time on a digital clock for awhile now. After he learned how to count by 5's he picked up telling time on an analog clock. Around the time he turned 3 he picked up telling time by the minute on an analog clock. The book he learned on was a library book so we ended up having it this week and I decided to get it on video. He LOVES the little book on top so we will probably have to check it out again sometime in the future.

It always amazes how he can focus on more then one thing at a time. He can be totally wrapped in Ramone but also hear you asking a question and follow the instructions. I love when he thought I said 3:19 and he says "19 after" and after I correct him he says "OH! 3:15." This boy cracks me up. Enjoy.

Sincere's First Basketball Practice

Well its been about a month since I posted anything. Since then I got a new camera, figured out how to use it, redid the whole house and Sincere has gotten even more intense. But I am back now that I feel comfortable with my new equipment and things have gotten a little less crazy.

They have a 3 year old preschool basketball program that is the cutest thing ever. Sincere told me he wanted to go and assured me that he would enjoy it. He said "It will make me big and strong. I want to play basketball." I prepared him all day for it and he was ready to go. Then we get there and what I feared would happen, happened.

While the rest of the kids were lined up quietly (about 12 of them) and their smiling parents sat on the bench taking pictures the hurricane swept into the gym. Sincere started off by ripping his name tag off and throwing it on the ground screaming "I just don't want to do basketball." I asked him to try. He said "I just can't. I can't do it." I sat there and talked to him about how its fine if he can't do something but he has to at least try. He was having no part of it. I did a couple of drills with him crying as we went along and when I went to sit on the bench he was screaming right behind me.

Meanwhile the other moms beady little eyes zeroed in on me. Of course the moms all had suggestions on what would get him out there playing. Like they could get him out there when I couldn't. Please. Sincere looked at each of them and told them "I don't want to play basketball. I want to sit on the bench and watch." I tried about 3 more times to get him on the court. And endured "I know how it is. My son gets like that too." Really? Because Sincere is never not like this so its not the same. And "Maybe his dad can bring him and he would do better." Which I replied "This is how he acts for everyone." And "Maybe he is tired" "Maybe he will do better next week." Maybe you guys can stick socks in your pie holes.

Seeing Sincere in a group of kids his age you can tell something is different. While the other kids dribbled the ball from one end of the court to the other (really well I might add) Sincere was in his own world. He sat there reading every word he saw and counted the lines on the basketball. While the other kids sat on their balls listening to directions about the next drill. Sincere pretended the lines on his ball were a race track and his finger was a car. Making up songs about action at the race. He even wrote his own doctors excuses for getting out of gym class. At one point in the video I captured one of his excuses that he was sick and needed a lollipop. Nice try.

After his fifth meltdown I decided to leave. Before I did I told the mom next to me "Well maybe he can be the mascot for the team."

Here is a small clip of some of his behavior.

Reading a Winter Poem

Sincere is a fan of the snow. This is not good for mommy because all though she enjoys looking at it on Christmas morning from the comfort of her own home she does not like to play in it. A beach with warm sand? Yes please. A sidewalk with cold snow? Not so much.

It snowed at the end of last week and the beginning of this week. I got Sincere a book about winter and snow from the library. It is a book of poems and its good because they are like short stories so he doesn't have to stay focused for long but he still gets a funny story. You can tell even at the end of this short poem his attention starts to drift. Its always a challenge with him to keep him focused but I am learning tricks (spelling, reminding him of his promised treats, signal the end of an activity is near, LOL). And sorry for having to remain still the whole time. If I moved the camera shut off. I am hoping to get new a piece of equipment soon. So I am trying to hold out till then. :)

Now for the show-

Messy Boy

It's been so busy over here that I haven't even had a chance to look for a new camera. So I am stuck with a camera that turns off on its on and cramped fingers from holding down the record button as I record. But I managed to get a video of a wild messy Sincere a couple nights ago. And yes picking up all that mess is as hard as you imagine it is.

I don't know why he came up with the idea about the kitty dying from Santa's presents. Hopefully he doesn't develop a fear of Santa presents. LOL!
